A loss and a shut out win
The Norwich Knighthawks Modern Trends Novice Local League team started the week off with a trip to Simcoe Thursday, January 25, 2018 to face the Simcoe Warriors. The Warriors started the game off quick with a shot to the top corner of the net getting ahead of the Knighthawks 0-1.

 Norwich was quick to try and tie it up with Tanner Master winning the face off and taking off hard for the net but the Simcoe goalie wasn’t letting it happen. Kirsten Samways and Justyn Ladd provided strong defence for the Knighthawks holding Simcoe to one in the first. In the second period the Knighthawks continued their fight for a goal. Fans saw a great pass from Master to Dylan Ratelle but they were stopped by the Warriors goalie. Zac Martin had a great shot on net tying things up 1-1. Simcoe managed to get another goal with lots of traffic in front of the Knighthawks net changing the score to 1-2. Norwich fought back hard with Ian Sprague and Zac McFarland clearing the puck taking away chances from Simcoe. The Warriors kept the pressure on managing another goal to the top of the net ending the second period 1-3. Fans saw the third period start with a great shot on net by Cayden Vandamme. Norwich had a power play but the Warriors killed any opportunities the Knighthawks had. With five players back on the ice Simcoe put some pressure on the Norwich goalie, Josiah Koncir, but Koncir wasn’t letting it in. The Knighthawks quickly rallied. On a pass from Claire McKie, Martin pounded another shot at the Warriors goalie scoring, bringing the score to 2-3 for Norwich. With just over a minute left in the game an icing call against the Warriors gave the Knighthawks coach the perfect opportunity to pull Koncir giving Norwich a one man advantage. It was a flurry of activity in the Warriors end but Norwich wasn’t able to get the puck in the net. A 2-3 loss for Norwich but an exciting game for Knighthawks fans.Sunday, January 28, 2018 the Knighthawks hosted the Burford Coyotes. The Knighthawks defence and goalie started the game off strong. Fans saw Van McAllister clearing the puck out of the Knighthawks end taking a shot away from the Coyotes. Master and Vandamme had great shots on net but couldn’t make it past the Burford goalie. A great pass from Ladd to Vandamme gave the Knighthawks another shot but the Coyotes weren’t giving it up. The second period started with no goals on the board for either team. The Coyotes put some pressure on the Knighthawks but Ethan Wills and Kohen Mann worked hard on defence to shut their chances down. Bre Wood started the third period off with a shot on net. With seven minutes left in the third Martin scored assisted by Sprague. The Knighthawks weren’t happy with just one and tried hard to get another goal. Carter Feyen and Vandamme worked to make something happen but the Coyotes defence wouldn’t let them by. Fans saw a great wrap around shot by Master, with a rebound shot by Logan Davis but the puck wouldn’t go in. A 1-0 win for the Knighthawks and the first shut out of the season for Koncir. Awesome job Knighthawks! The team travels to Delhi Sunday, February 4th to take on the Delhi Rockets. Go Knighthawks, Go!
